Terms of Service
1. The service
Unlist ("we", "us") is a UK sole trader providing a free junk mail opt-out service. Acting under your Letter of Authority, we submit opt-out registrations to the DMA Your Choice scheme and to data brokers including Experian, Equifax, and Whistl, and we trigger Royal Mail's Door-to-Door opt-out process on your behalf. The MPS registration must be completed by you directly, as it requires confirmation via a link sent to your own email.
2. What we guarantee and what we don't
We guarantee that your opt-out submissions will be filed promptly and correctly with the schemes we handle. We cannot guarantee 100% elimination of junk mail, because:
- Senders with a legitimate existing relationship with you may continue under their own legal basis
- Some senders may not be registered with these schemes
- Schemes take 3–6 weeks to take effect
- Royal Mail and MPS require action from you that we cannot complete on your behalf
- Opt-out schemes are administered by third parties outside our control
Most users see a meaningful reduction in junk mail within 6 weeks of completing all steps, including the MPS registration and returning the Royal Mail form.
3. Cost
Unlist is free to use. We do not charge for filing opt-outs, renewals, or any part of the service. Unlist is funded by voluntary donations and a small, privacy-friendly advertisement. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in future, but the core opt-out service will remain free.
4. Renewals
Your DMA and Royal Mail opt-outs are automatically re-filed by us approximately every 23 months, before they expire, at no charge. We'll email you when the Royal Mail form is on its way again so you can sign and return it. You can deactivate your account at any time via your account page or by emailing hello@unlist.uk, which stops future renewals.
5. Donations
Donations made via our support page are voluntary, non-refundable, and do not entitle you to any additional service. Donations are processed securely by Stripe.
6. Your responsibilities
You must provide accurate name and address information. Submitting false information or using the service for an address you do not occupy is prohibited. You must be the occupant or authorised representative of the property.
7. Letter of Authority
By ticking the Letter of Authority, you grant us limited authority to act as your agent for the opt-outs you select. This does not authorise us to act on your behalf in any other capacity. You may revoke this authority at any time in writing.
8. Limitation of liability
As Unlist is provided free of charge, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. We are not liable for junk mail received after opt-out is triggered (during the processing period), for senders not covered by the schemes we handle, or for delays caused by third parties (DMA, Royal Mail, MPS, or data brokers).
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
